Classic Safari Camps wish all our guests and friends a happy and prosperous new year. 2010 is going to be a good year!
We are growing again - in November we welcomed Chada Katavi as new members of Classics which falls under the Nomad Tanzania portfolio.
We've done it again, The Hide have been voted "The Best Tented Safari Camp in Zimbabwe" for the 11th occasion in 2009", and Chongwe River Camp have won the Zambia Tourism Award for "Best Retreat in Africa" as well as "Best Safari Accommodation" for 2009. You've set the bar very high and we encourage you to crack it again in 2010. Congratulations.
After a long battle, Governors' Camps now have customs and immigration clearance facilities at Mfangano Island Camp. This means guests can fly to and from Tanzania or Rwanda and clear customs at Mfangano saving at least a day for guests who combine Mara and Serengeti on their itineraries. It doesn't stop there, The Governors' Camp Collection is delighted to announce the launch of their latest documentary film project: Governors' Big Cat Updates. Episode 1 has been launched and can be viewed on:

Rain, glorious rain! At last the rains have arrived – the bush is green, the water holes full, the river is flowing and that means guests can have fun rafting and paddling. The wild dogs are back with us too, making it a great start to 2010 – even the camels seem to be smiling at the moment! On top of this, elephant, leopard, lion, giraffe, buffalo and many more still abound. There is possibly no better time to visit!

The Hide Undergoes Refurbishment and More
The Hide has begun 2010 with a major refurbishment project which includes breaking down 4 tents and replacing them as deluxe suites on new sites. The deluxe suites will include a lounge-come-bedroom for travelling families. The existing tents will undergo major transformations with new bathrooms added to include a bath, outside shower and private toilet.
The A-frame will undergo a top-to-toe makeover and we will have a new building to house the reception, curio shop and guest relations office. For the ‘foodies', the kitchen will be re-equipped too.

Katavi National Park - Tanzania |
In our opinion, Katavi National Park remains one of the greatest big mammal experiences of Africa. Miles from anywhere, in wildest west Tanzania, it has an almost mythical status and, it's thought, a greater density of animals than any other Tanzanian reserve. Massed on the plains are the last great herds of buffalo in East Africa, up to 1000 head. Its very remoteness means you won't be amongst the masses, you'll almost feel as if you have the park to yourself.

Lake Malawi National Park - Malawi |
Loyce Sikakula is a waitress at Pumulani with a beaming smile and some special talents. Loyce recycles all our waste paper to create beautiful hand made crafts. When we heard that Loyce was teaching local orphans in kasankha village how to make paper in her spare time we decided to help her out. Together with the local chief we are proud to announce the launch of a small hand craft center, where Loyce can teach eager children new skills. Other artisans will also hold workshops in basket weaving, batik painting and dug out canoe building.
