Members' News
Tortilis Camp
Border Amboseli Nat. Park – Kenya
Tortilis continues it's commitment in terms of funds and assistance to the expansion of the Embarankoi School for local Maasai children. The project has been delayed due to lack of voluntary labour but we remain positive that the community will realise the benefits of assisting in the construction, to better the lives of not only their children, but to improve the chronic human-wildlife conflict issues of the area.
The Selinda
Linyanti Swamps – Botswana
The Selinda has been through an extensive building and camp upgrade that started last year when all nine rooms were remodelled inside and out. Phase two - the main area - has now been completed! Inspired by both The Selinda's endless views and the four elements of Nature, the design and furnishings are a sensory collage that
epitomises the area. Dinner, under the canopy of the Milky Way, is a particularly special feature. (The Selinda's rebuild includes our website! The new site can be viewed at http://www.selindareserve.com/)
Sand Rivers Selous
Selous Game Reserve – Tanzania
All the rooms at Sand Rivers Selous have been completely renovated over the last few months. There are now 5 ‘Standard’ rooms and 2 ‘Suite’ rooms. The Rhino House is our new one bedroom private house offering private dining/activities, and a totally exclusive experience in the Selous. Kiba Point is a new 8 bed lodge (opening early September) next to the Rufiji several kms downstream. This private camp, booked on an exclusive basis, consists of 4 separate cottages. Private game drives, fly camping, walks, fishing, and boating are available, and are totally separate from activities at Sand Rivers.
Governors’ Il Moran Camp

Masai Mara - Kenya

For those that want that extra bit of luxury we have kept Governors' Il Moran Camp small and intimate, with added touches that makes for a top of the range safari. Governors' Il Moran Camp is situated right in the heart of the best game viewing area of Kenya on the banks of the Mara River. Il Moran is widely regarded as a premier camp in the Masai Mara, ideal for honeymooners and clients who have something special to celebrate.
Nduna Safari Lodge

Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve – Zimbabwe

Nduna is undergoing a refurb and we are aiming for August to open, however with the Zimbabwe situation this is proving to be quite a challenge. We have just appointed a new Lodge Manager for Nduna - Tracy Fouche who started on June 15th 2007. We are very excited about Tracy's involvement at Nduna and wish her all the very best!

Classic Recipe - Tessa's Sweet Chilli Jam
Ant’s Nest Waterberg – South Africa

250g large red chillies
6 cloves garlic, crushed
2 teaspoons grated fresh ginger
3 cups white vinegar
2 cups water
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon salt

This recipe makes about 3 cups. Enjoy with starters and or cheese!

Remove stems from chillies and roughly chop with seeds. (The more seeds you put in the hotter it is) Combine vinegar, water and sugar in large pan, not too deep. Stir over heat without boiling until sugar is dissolved. Process sugar syrup, chillies, garlic and ginger until finely chopped. Return to pan and boil uncovered for 30-45 minutes until mixture is reduced by half. Stand for 10 minutes before bottling in sterilized jars. Seal while hot.

How's That!
Tongabezi Victoria Falls – Zimbabwe

Livingstone Bob is famous for his birding knowledge. He recently spent time sharpening our guides birding skills and Sanya asked him which bird is most intriguing and representative of Tongabezi. The Finfoot she was told... but warned that these pretty birds are in a class of their own, quite shy and hardly ever speak or fly. A couple of mornings later, they had 10 minutes to spare and jumped in a canoe down river – and spotted no less than 6 birds! One which was cackling away and another embarking on a mammoth flight from tree to water! Proving that nature always has another surprise up her sleeve….
