The Cottar Safari tradition began in 1919. Drawing on ninety years of safari service, the Cottar family provides guests with the highest standard of personalized service and professional guiding. Tailor made itineraries ensure a unique and unparalleled safari experience for our discerning guests. Recalling an era of luxury and quality, Cottar's 1920s Safari Camp in the Maasai Mara, returns to the original spirit and essence of 'safari', reminiscent of a golden era - an era of romance, professional guiding, adventure and elegance, in a timelessly unspoiled setting with panoramic views and boundless game.
Cottar's 1920s Safari Camp is situated in our extensive and exclusive concession between the Maasai Mara, Serengeti and Loliondo reserves. This area has been untouched by any kind of tourism or development and offers the discerning client a guarantee of privacy and an abundance of wildlife.
The serene white canvassed camp recalls a bygone era when safaris were unrushed, elegant and oozed romance. The camp accommodates up to 22 guests and the tents are spacious and luxuriously furnished. They incorporate original safari antiques from the '20s, private ensuite dressing and bathrooms, main bedrooms and verandas.
Guest activities include guided bush walks, bush meals, cultural visits, river swimming and fishing, as well as day and night game drives in either state of the art four wheel drive vehicles, or in our authentic old wooden car.
All of Cottar’s guides have the prestigious Silver Level KPSGA (Kenyan Professional Safari Guide Association) qualification and one of them has just received the remarkable gold qualification, making them some of the best guides in the country. At an additional cost Calvin Cottar himself is available to lead safaris.
