Pumulani is a Slice of Malawi’s Lakeside Heaven

“Pumulani is run by Robin Pope Safaris and we found our stay to offer exclusive accommodation, great food, a comfy bed and more.
The more being:  an outdoor shower that drains into a boat, an infinity pool that was purpose built to laze around drinking cocktails and some cracker sunsets you imagine only exist in other peoples photos.”

These are some of the bliss-filled words used by the Aussie Overlander’s to paint a picture of their recent stay at Pumulani. The adventurous travelling couple are Gareth and Kirsty who are a year into their bucket-list type trip driving overland from Sydney to London, via East Africa, in their trusty old Landcruiser.

Gareth summed up the feeling they were overcome with when relaxing into the luxurious, Lake Malawi bliss at Pumulani, by writing, “Yeah, Kirst and I were in heaven.”

The two travellers lapped up the island-style life of luxurious-happiness during their days of sun and lake fun at the lodge. Gareth tells of their sailing activity which was one of the highlights for them.
“On our second evening at Pumulani we were treated to a sail on their traditional dhow. A dhow is a boat used by past and present sea farers in the Red Sea and Indian Ocean regions to carry heavy items such as fruit, water spices etc. No fruit and spice on this one though. Only gin and tonics, wine and some delicious home made samosas. Plus, a couple of very happy Australians.”

The lodge is situated on the west side of the Nankumba Peninsula on the Southern end of Lake Malawi. Accommodation is in 10 privately set beach villas. They’re stylish, comfortable and blend perfectly into the lakeside environment with views that deserve applause.

Pumulani offers a whole selection of water based activities including snorkelling, scuba diving, sailing, fishing, sunset cruises and more. Birding and mountain biking are favourite things to do amongst guests as well as good old fashioned relaxing. The stargazer at Pumulani will revolutionise the way you look at the night sky and cultural tours to visit a nearby village can be arranged too.
