The African wilderness is an exhilarating playground. But it’s a playground filled with potential dangers. At Loisaba Wilderness in Laikipia, Kenya guests can feel safer than ever when exploring the great outdoors on guided bush walks, with highly trained rangers and trackers. Part of the appeal of being immersed in the vast expanses of bush and never-ending landscapes is the adrenalin rush that comes hand in hand with the experience. The Kenyan wilderness is a dangerous place which must be respected. But the rewards of exploring it safely are priceless.
Albie Venter from Eco Training South Africa recently led a firearm training course at Loisaba. Albie commented on how impressed he was with the knowledge, enthusiasm, ability and friendliness of the rangers and trackers who participated. Subjects covered included firearms cleaning and maintenance, using firearms in the bush and both static and moving target practice. Firearms are very rarely used and only ever in the event of a life-threatening situation with a warning shot fired over the head of the animal which usually proves effective. Armed trackers accompany all bush walks at Loisaba and are also based at Kiboko and Koija starbeds in case of potentially dangerous animal encounters. The general rule of the wild is that if people respect the animals and their space they will be safe from harm.

Well-known Kenya media guru Eve D’Souza from the TV travel program Travel Diaries recently enjoyed a stay at Loisaba. The show aims to break the myths that surround domestic travel in Kenya and showcases holiday spots of all varieties. Eve and her team filmed Loisaba to be aired on KTN later this year. We’re looking forward to seeing it.

A visit to Loisaba Wilderness is an experience of which you’ll never tire. Accommodation on offer is at Loisaba Lodge, Loisaba House, Loisaba Cottage and the Kiboko and Koija starbeds – each option offering a specific environment to suit guests’ preferences. Loisaba’s spa offers a range of indulgent treatments with products made from local herbs & flowers – the perfect antidote for a long morning in the bush.
